But, you can't type text if you have the paint bucket enabled, so you're in the Paint Bucket mode. These all have keyboard shortcuts and I don't think people even realize they are in a "mode". Like in Photoshop for example, you have to jump between the arrow, the marquee, the paint bucket, magic wand, text tools. ![]() One of the biggest complaints I hear from people is that Avid is too "modal" but to me, I see no difference in Avid's approach and selecting the tool needed. Or I would hold Control and lasso the clip and move it. ![]() Or, "I need to move this clip downstream to some point later in time", I punch and grab the clip and move it. I look at my sequence and say "I need to trim this clip", so I hit [ and boom, I'm trimming. When I'm editing, I don't even think of the process as being modal. Trim "mode" is mapped to my [ key Red Segment is the key. Is it simply a matter of the language? The fact that one has to "Enter Trim ' mode'" or "Enter Red Segment ' mode'"? To me, it's really no different than saying "Activate the Trim 'tool'" or "Activate the Red Segment 'tool'". ![]() I have always struggled to understand why so many are caught up with the idea of the "modes" being a problem.
